One of the most frustrating aspects of a home business is a lack of progress due to procrastination. You know you should be taking action but there's something just pulling you back/resisting you from getting out of your comfort zone and the more you feel it, the more it grows. Let me help you smash procrastination in your home business.
In this blog post I'll share with you how to identify and understand where Procrastination is coming from.
In my next blog post I'll share with you how I (finally) conquered procrastination by changing a few simple things in my life.
Do you recognize this?
“I'll start again Monday”….
a week later “I'll start again Monday”….
a week later “I'll start again Monday”…. a week later “I'll start again Monday”….
A vicious cycle. Monday never comes, and you need to snap out of that cycle.
First of all you need to understand where the procrastination is coming from. Why are you putting off?
Your procrastination is probably related to some kind of fear..
For example, you don't want to look foolish in front of other people. Or you don't think you're prepared enough. Or you feel you need more information about the company.
What happens if you have a conversation with someone and they ask a question you can't answer?
You don't want to look foolish – you don't know everything about the company – and if they ask you about the comp plan you're going to panic.
We have this fear coming from an ego that doesn't want us to look foolish or bad.
What you've got to realize is that
IGNORANCE ON FIRE IS BETTER THAN KNOWLEDGE ON ICE
By taking action, you will learn much more than peeking over the fence.
If you want to learn how to swim, you can read all the manuals in the world, but if you've never gotten your feet wet or in the pool, you're never going to learn.
On the other side, if you get into that pool and flop around, eventually you're going to get some kind of technique that will get you from one side to the other.
People will always back the guy or the girl who's in the pool flapping around.
The more that you procrastinate, the heavier that phone's going to feel. That fear is going to build, no matter how many answers you get to your questions. And more answers lead to more questions.
Get in the field. Rip it up like a bandleader and learn as you go along. You now know why we procrastinate!
Realize that every part of growth lies outside your comfort zone. You might be good at sharing pretty pictures on Facebook, but that's not how you're going to build your business.
You might be comfortable speaking to this or that person, but the ones on your right hand, on your chicken list, is where your activity and productivity is should be.
Waiting to get comfortable with the actions you're going to take – that's never going to come.
As Einstein once said:
IF YOU DO WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS DONE YOU'LL GET WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS GOTTEN
So if you want to get different results, you're going to have to stretch yourself outside your comfort zone
And when you grow, your value grows
So stretch yourself
Get out of your comfort zone
And realize that procrastination doesn't serve you
In part 2, I'll share with you HOW to stop Procrastination.
I'll share with you the exact same actions I took to break the vicious cycle of being a world-class procrastinator.
